Software Engineering Manager — Usage & Monetization
Harness is seeking a dynamic Software Engineering Manager to lead the development of our next-generation Usage, Billing, and Entitlement Platform. This mission-critical system underpins the operation and value delivery of all Harness products, processing millions of real-time events daily to provide AWS-level scalability and transparency for our customers. Your leadership will be pivotal in building the economic engine of our cloud platform, ensuring precision and performance in a system as fundamental as compute, storage, or security.
In this role, you will lead a distributed team of engineers to build and operate large-scale, low-latency services capable of processing millions of usage events daily. You will architect and implement the core event processing and data infrastructure behind usage tracking, metering, billing, and licensing across the Harness product suite. Collaborating with product and platform teams, you will define APIs, data contracts, and architecture to ensure seamless, real-time customer visibility into usage and costs. Additionally, you will drive excellence in operability, reliability, and performance, building systems that can scale effortlessly and self-heal under load. Staying hands-on, you will review code, contribute to key architectural components, and mentor engineers to push technical boundaries, while shaping the technical roadmap and long-term strategy for how Harness manages value exchange at platform scale.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience leading high-performing backend or platform engineering teams, and over 5 years of experience building SaaS platforms in Java or Go, with hands-on experience designing distributed systems and data-intensive pipelines. A strong background in event-driven or streaming architectures (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.) and low-latency, high-throughput systems is essential. A proven track record of building systems that deliver clarity, reliability, and trust to enterprise customers is required. Operational excellence in managing on-call rotations, incident response, and continuous improvement of production systems is expected. Comfort working across global teams, product boundaries, and complex technical domains is also necessary.
Harness offers a competitive salary and early-stage stock options, comprehensive healthcare benefits, flexible spending accounts, and a flexible work schedule. Additional perks include an Employee Assistance Program, paid time off and parental leave, monthly, quarterly, and annual social and team-building events, a TGIF-Off program, remote office stipend, monthly internet reimbursement, and a monthly food and beverage reimbursement program.
Joining Harness means becoming part of a culture that values autonomy, ownership, and engineering excellence. You will have the opportunity to work with world-class engineers on problems of scale, data integrity, and reliability that few startups tackle at this stage. Your contributions will directly shape the way customers experience Harness, ensuring fairness, precision, and performance in a system that is core to our platform.
