Senior Test Engineer (Hybrid) – London
AlphaSights is seeking a highly experienced, self-driven Senior Test Engineer to join our Software Engineering Team in London. Collaborating with Software Engineering and Product Management, you will lead the design and implementation of automated testing solutions that scale across our platform, ensuring our applications are reliable, scalable, and meet the highest standards across frontend, backend, and APIs.
In this hands-on, leadership-oriented role, you will develop and maintain automated tests, lead Test Engineering strategies, set technical standards, and mentor QA team members transitioning to Test Engineering. You will help define best practices for testing, quality, and reliability. In this fast-paced environment, you will maintain a positive, problem-solving mindset and embrace the challenge of delivering seamless user experiences through robust test automation.
Key responsibilities include leading the design and development of automated test plans, suites, and frameworks across multiple projects to ensure comprehensive test coverage and high-quality releases. You will mentor and guide junior QA engineers, fostering a culture of quality and best practices. Maintaining and scaling test automation infrastructure to support CI/CD pipelines, cross-platform validation, and fast feedback loops is essential. Additionally, you will perform targeted manual testing, including exploratory testing, edge-case validation, and UI/UX verification where required. Collaborating closely with Engineering and Product teams to define test strategies, acceptance criteria, and testing priorities for complex features is also a key aspect of the role.
The ideal candidate likely holds a degree in a STEM subject, though alternative routes are considered. You should have experience working at a similar level in a mature Engineering team and be looking to take your career to the next level. Technical expertise in designing, building, and scaling automated test frameworks using modern tools (ideally Cypress or Playwright) is required, along with proficiency in at least one programming language such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or Java. A demonstrated ability to architect automation solutions across frontend, backend, and APIs, ensuring maintainability, scalability, and fast feedback in CI/CD pipelines, is essential. A strong understanding of distributed systems, data validation (SQL/NoSQL), and test integration within microservice-based architectures is also important. A proven track record of making a demonstrable impact in previous roles, being highly driven and proactive, and having an obsessive attention to detail are key attributes.
Bonus points are awarded for experience setting up or scaling automation frameworks from scratch, experience with performance, load, or security testing tools, a track record of mentoring or leading Test Engineering teams, and experience with native mobile application testing, Kubernetes, microservices architecture, or cloud-based infrastructure.
