Xometry is seeking a Senior Principal in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to lead large-scale, cross-functional ML/AI initiatives with significant business impact. This role involves developing an 18- to 24-month technical roadmap that balances innovation with business value delivery. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, manufacturing operations, and business leadership to influence partner roadmaps and resourcing. As a respected subject-matter expert, the individual will proactively remove roadblocks for teams and address challenges beyond their immediate scope.

Key responsibilities include serving as the technical leader for multiple large, cross-functional ML/AI solutions, defining and driving the ML/AI technical roadmap, and influencing partner roadmaps across various teams. The role also involves proactively identifying and removing roadblocks for teams and projects, mentoring individuals and technical teams, and acting as a trusted subject-matter expert to shape ML/AI infrastructure, data, models, and tooling decisions. Additionally, the individual will play a leadership role in identifying areas of opportunity to drive revenue growth, cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and competitive differentiation, especially in areas involving 2D/3D part understanding, generative AI, and advanced machine-learning platforms.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a preference for a PhD for deep generative/3D modeling emphasis. They should possess over 12 years of professional experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science roles, including several years in a senior or principal capacity leading major programs. Demonstrated experience in architecting and delivering large-scale ML/AI solutions end-to-end is essential. Deep expertise in machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, data engineering, model infrastructure, MLOps, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), and scalable production systems is required. Experience in 3D modeling, geometry, computer vision, and generative models is highly desirable. Strong exposure to generative AI techniques and translating them into business use-cases is also important. Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, the ability to influence without direct authority, strong communication and presentation skills, and a track record of delivering measurable business impact via ML/AI are necessary. Experience mentoring and guiding teams of ML engineers, data scientists, or AI researchers is also required.

The estimated base salary range for new hires into this role is $150,000 to $196,000 annually, plus an annual bonus, depending on factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, and location. Xometry also offers a competitive benefits package, including a 401(k) match, medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and disability insurance; generous paid time off including vacation, sick leave, floating and fixed holidays, maternity and bonding leave; employee assistance programs; and other well-being resources.
