Senior Legal Counsel, Business Operations
Canva is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its Product and Privacy Legal team, focusing on supporting the company's internal business operations. This role involves collaborating closely with the People, Infrastructure, and Platform teams to ensure compliance with privacy laws and standards, contributing to Canva's mission to empower the world to design and become the world's most trusted platform.
The Senior Legal Counsel will serve as the primary legal advisor for the People team on matters related to product, privacy, and AI governance. Responsibilities include monitoring regulatory developments affecting employee monitoring, AI in recruitment, and data sovereignty; advising on Privacy Impact Assessments; and supporting company-wide privacy training initiatives. Additionally, the role involves ensuring that Canva's terms of use and internal policies remain current and effective.
Candidates should possess a legal qualification with an Australian practicing certificate and have over eight years of legal experience, including in-house roles. Demonstrated expertise in complex privacy issues, particularly concerning data residency and sensitive personal data, is essential. Experience in advising rapidly growing businesses, preferably within the SaaS industry, on global privacy compliance is highly valued. Familiarity with personal data incident management, privacy training development, and AI applications in legal processes is also desirable.
