Senior Legal Counsel, Business Operations

Canva is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its Product and Privacy Legal team, focusing on supporting the company's internal business operations. This role involves providing expert legal advice on privacy matters, particularly concerning the People, Infrastructure, and Platform teams, to ensure compliance with applicable laws and standards.

The Senior Legal Counsel will serve as the primary legal advisor for the People team on issues related to product privacy and AI governance, as well as for the Infrastructure and Platform teams. Responsibilities include monitoring regulatory developments, advising on Privacy Impact Assessments, and supporting company-wide privacy training initiatives. The role also involves maintaining current terms of use and internal policies, and developing tools and processes to support Canva's growth.

Candidates should possess a legal qualification with an Australian practicing certificate and have over eight years of legal experience, including in-house roles. Demonstrated expertise in complex privacy issues, such as data residency and sensitive personal data, is essential. Experience advising rapidly growing businesses, preferably in the SaaS industry, on global privacy compliance is required. Familiarity with personal data incident management, privacy training development, and AI applications in legal work is also important. A CIPP/E certification is preferred.
