Senior Legal Counsel, Employment
Canva is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel specializing in employment law to join its Global Employment Legal Team. This role is based in Melbourne, Australia, and focuses on employment law matters across the APAC region, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the Philippines. The position involves close collaboration with People, Total Rewards, Finance, and other key stakeholders to support Canva's growth and evolving workforce model.
Key responsibilities include providing strategic, commercially pragmatic advice on employment law matters, advising on day-to-day employment issues such as performance management, exits, investigations, and regulatory issues, and supporting the development and implementation of scalable employment frameworks, policies, processes, and guidance. The role also involves managing employment disputes, claims, and regulatory inquiries, partnering with external counsel when necessary.
Candidates should be admitted to practice in Australia or an equivalent jurisdiction and have over 8 years of post-qualification experience specializing in employment law, gained in a leading law firm and/or in-house legal team, preferably within the technology sector. Experience working across multiple jurisdictions or in a multinational environment is highly regarded. Strong experience advising senior stakeholders on complex employment and employee relations matters, excellent judgment, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment are essential.
