Senior Engineering Manager - Security Platform Engineering (Open to remote across ANZ)
Canva is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead its Security Platform Engineering and Security Development teams. The Security Platform Engineering team focuses on solving security-specific challenges, enabling engineers to build secure code efficiently by providing a suite of standardized tools. The Security Development team develops and maintains software that enhances the broader Security Group's capabilities, including vulnerability scanning and incident response tools.
In this role, you will manage two small teams of software engineers dedicated to designing and implementing software solutions that mitigate security risks. You will be responsible for developing and executing strategic roadmaps for both teams, balancing security requirements with developer experience to facilitate rapid development within secure parameters. Your duties will also include coaching and providing regular feedback to engineers, overseeing development methodologies such as sprint planning and retrospectives, and promoting the adoption of security systems across Canva's engineering teams.
The ideal candidate will have experience directly managing high-performing teams aligned with company missions and goals. Strong software engineering fundamentals are essential, with the ability to engage with principal-level engineers and contribute significantly to design documents and complex software architectures. Proficiency in languages such as Golang, Java, or Rust is required, along with experience in building and operating cloud-based services. Additional qualifications include experience collaborating cross-functionally with software engineering, SRE/DevOps, and compliance teams to integrate security into developer workflows.
