Senior Counsel, Labor and Employment
Headway, a mission-driven healthcare technology company founded in 2019, is seeking a Senior Counsel, Labor & Employment to join their growing legal team. The company aims to build a new mental healthcare system that is accessible to everyone by connecting individuals with mental health providers who accept insurance. With a diverse network of over 60,000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states, Headway has served over 1 million patients.
In this role, the Senior Counsel will serve as the primary legal advisor to the People team and business leaders on a wide range of labor and employment matters. Responsibilities include providing guidance on hiring practices, performance management, separations, leaves and accommodations, investigations, wage and hour compliance, and other key areas. The position also involves designing and reviewing People-related policies, procedures, and workflows to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, training HR business partners and People managers on labor and employment developments and best practices, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating employment-related agreements and documents, and representing the company in litigation and related disputes.
Candidates should have at least 5 years of post-bar admittance legal experience with a deep understanding of labor and employment matters. Meaningful in-house experience in a fast-paced, high-growth start-up environment is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess strong relationship-building skills, attention to detail, and the ability to drive clarity. A J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing are required, with the ability to register as NY in-house counsel.
The expected base salary for this position ranges from $179,200 to $280,000, depending on qualifications, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for an equity grant.
