Senior Counsel
The Senior Counsel for Procurement, EPC, and O&M at Clearway Energy will provide legal guidance to management and project teams as the company pursues opportunities in the utility-scale wind, solar, and battery energy storage sectors. This hybrid role reports to the Assistant General Counsel and is based in one of Clearway's offices in San Diego, CA; Scottsdale, AZ; Houston, TX; Denver, CO; or San Francisco, CA.
In this position, the Senior Counsel will offer legal counsel on matters related to engineering, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance, including financed projects. Responsibilities include representing the company in major transactions and negotiations, drafting and negotiating EPC Agreements, O&M Agreements, Turbine Supply Agreements, and Module Supply Agreements, and providing counsel on legal issues identified by asset management, O&M, EPC, and procurement teams concerning operating projects. The role also involves supervising outside counsel as necessary and collaborating with internal stakeholders to improve contracting processes and tools.
Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor degree with a strong academic record from a reputable law school and be licensed to practice law. A minimum of seven years of relevant experience at a major law firm or a sophisticated in-house legal department is required, with significant experience advising clients on construction, procurement, and operation and maintenance matters, ideally involving utility-scale wind, solar, and/or battery projects. Strong business acumen, excellent commercial judgment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Effective communication skills, project management abilities, negotiation skills, and a solution-oriented approach to problem-solving are also important.
The compensation for this role includes a base salary ranging from $200,000 to $230,000 USD, depending on geographic location, skills, relevant experience, education, training, and certifications. The position is eligible for an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.
