AbbVie, a global biopharmaceutical company, is seeking a Senior Counsel for AI Legal – International Policy & Contracts to provide strategic legal leadership for the company's global artificial intelligence (AI) regulatory, policy, and contracting framework. This role is essential for ensuring AbbVie can safely and compliantly scale AI technologies across various jurisdictions by anticipating regulatory developments, establishing enterprise policies, and facilitating cross-border deployment.

The Senior Counsel will monitor, assess, and interpret global AI regulations, such as the EU AI Act and regulations in countries like China, Japan, Australia, and Brazil, advising on their impact on AbbVie's business operations. They will lead the development and maintenance of enterprise AI legal policies, standards, and governance frameworks, partnering with the Privacy legal team to guide cross-border AI deployment, including data transfer, localization, and compliance obligations. Additionally, the role involves developing and maintaining AI contracting standards, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex AI-related agreements, and collaborating with Government Affairs, Compliance, Privacy, and Ethics teams to align on enterprise AI policy positions.

Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent with an active bar membership and a minimum of 5 years of legal experience, with deep expertise in technology law, global regulatory frameworks, and data privacy. Experience advising on cross-border regulatory issues and negotiating complex technology and AI-related agreements is essential. Strong executive communication and advisory skills are also required. Preferred qualifications include 10 years of legal experience, familiarity with AI/ML regulatory frameworks like the EU AI Act and GDPR, experience in life sciences or other highly regulated industries, and a background in collaborating with government affairs or regulatory bodies.

The compensation range for this position is $160,500 to $305,000 annually. AbbVie offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, and a 401(k) plan to eligible employees. This role is eligible to participate in AbbVie's long-term incentive programs.
