Senior Backend Engineer, AI Platform
Roofr is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our AI Platform team. In this role, you will be instrumental in establishing the foundational architecture for AI integration across our product suite. This is a pivotal opportunity to set standards and create patterns that will influence the entire company's approach to AI-powered features.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include developing application-layer foundations for AI integration, designing and implementing scalable integrations with third-party services and APIs, and building data pipelines to support Roofr's AI systems. You will also be tasked with creating rigorous evaluation frameworks to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our AI systems. Collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams will be essential to understand needs, establish shared patterns, and ensure the platform is built for real-world applications.
The ideal candidate will have 5–8 years of backend software development experience, with practical, production-level experience in building AI-powered systems. Hands-on familiarity with LLM APIs and agent frameworks, such as Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, or LangChain, is highly desirable. A strong background in integration engineering, experience in building data pipelines for AI use cases, and a track record of developing scalable backend systems are essential. Proficiency in PHP/Laravel is an asset, but deep backend engineering fundamentals and the ability to adapt to our tech stack are most important.
Roofr offers a competitive compensation range of $140,000 to $160,000 CAD, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
