Quantitative Trader – Equities (Strategy Monetization)
IMC is seeking a Quantitative Trader to focus on monetization research and backtesting for high- to mid-frequency delta-one equity strategies. This role emphasizes research depth, systematic evaluation, and capital efficiency, partnering closely with quantitative researchers and engineers to transform signals into scalable, profitable trading strategies. The position is based in Sydney, with consideration for exceptional candidates from top global trading firms to be located in Hong Kong.
Key responsibilities include researching and evaluating new trading signals and strategy ideas with a focus on monetization potential, designing and running large-scale backtests to assess profit and loss, risk, capacity, and robustness, and analyzing transaction costs, market impact, and execution assumptions within backtesting frameworks. The role also involves optimizing portfolio construction, capital allocation, and risk controls across strategies, collaborating with engineers to improve backtesting infrastructure, data quality, and research tools, and partnering with live traders to ensure research assumptions align with real-world execution behavior. Additionally, the trader will drive strategies from research validation through to production readiness.
Candidates should possess a degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Economics, and have at least 3 years of experience in quantitative trading or monetization research, preferably in equities. Strong experience with backtesting frameworks, large datasets, and systematic performance evaluation is essential, along with a deep understanding of market microstructure, transaction costs, and scalability constraints. Proficiency in programming languages like Python or C++ is strongly preferred, with the ability to write clean, research-grade code. A rigorous, detail-oriented mindset with strong statistical intuition is crucial, and experience at leading systematic or proprietary trading firms is a strong plus.
