Xometry is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the technical design and engineering of systems aimed at predicting and addressing challenges in manufacturing customers' parts. This role involves developing solutions that integrate machine learning model predictions, part geometry information, and customer data to accurately estimate manufacturing costs and identify suitable manufacturing partners. The position is based in Lexington, Kentucky, and offers a hybrid work environment.

The Principal Software Engineer will be responsible for hands-on technical leadership, actively coding and troubleshooting, as well as creating documentation and technical diagrams. The role includes mentoring engineers across the organization, conducting code reviews, and promoting best practices in machine learning engineering. Additionally, the engineer will ensure the delivery of high-quality infrastructure and software that align with strategic business timelines, foster strong partnerships with product managers and data scientists, and champion the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to enhance problem-solving efficiency.

Candidates should have at least 8 years of experience in software engineering or similar technical roles, with a minimum of 4 years in a technical leadership position. A bachelor's degree is required, while an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in computer science or a related field is preferred and may substitute for some years of experience. Proficiency in software engineering best practices, experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure), containerization technologies (Docker and Kubernetes), and designing distributed computing systems are essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, are also required. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or Green Card holders due to ITAR requirements.

The estimated base salary range for this role is $148,000 to $193,000 annually, plus an annual bonus, depending on factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, and location.
