Principal Scientist - Optics Signal Processing
The Principal Scientist - Optics Signal Processing at STR will lead the development of advanced signal processing capabilities for airborne passive optical sensing systems supporting critical national security missions. This role involves guiding multidisciplinary teams in designing algorithms and processing architectures to detect, characterize, and exploit targets in challenging environments. Key responsibilities include leading teams in the design and maturation of signal processing algorithms, applying physics-based modeling to understand sensing phenomenology and environmental effects, and developing end-to-end processing chains from sensor modeling to target classification. The role also involves identifying novel algorithmic approaches for detecting low-SNR signals, collaborating with program leadership and external partners to align research with mission needs, mentoring team members, and transitioning research algorithms into operational software.
Candidates should have a BA or MS in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with 10-12+ years of relevant experience. Expertise in signal processing, Fourier analysis, linear estimation, optimization, adaptive signal processing, AI/ML algorithm development, modeling & simulation, and optics modeling is required. Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, and C/C++ is essential. An active Secret or TS/SCI Clearance is preferred.
