Principal Mission Architect
Muon Space is seeking a Principal Mission Architect to lead the development of new mission architectures within our mission development team. This role involves collaborating with customers to identify their needs, managing a team of engineers to develop cost-effective solutions, and designing practical space missions. Muon Space, founded in 2021, specializes in designing, building, and operating low Earth orbit satellite constellations that deliver mission-critical data for applications such as climate monitoring and national security.
The Principal Mission Architect will be responsible for developing complete mission concepts based on customer requirements, performing mission-level analyses, and owning all top-level mission budgets. Key duties include defining and designing mission requirements for various payloads, leveraging software tools to conduct engineering trade studies, evaluating spacecraft performance and constellation configurations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure mission objectives are met.
Candidates should possess a B.S. or higher degree in a related engineering field, along with at least 12 years of experience working with space missions. Higher-level degrees count for two years of experience each if they are in relevant topics. Essential qualifications include excellent communication and coordination skills, dedication to data-driven decision-making, experience in spacecraft and space mission design, proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Julia, Matlab, C, or C++, and the ability to travel to the Mountain View facility for in-person meetings, builds, and tests. An active TS/SCI clearance is also required.
The salary range for this role is $170,000 to $243,000, plus incentive compensation, a competitive equity grant, and a comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
