In this position, attorneys are expected to handle a varied caseload involving motions to vacate convictions, writs of habeas corpus, expungements, and other forms of post-conviction relief. The role requires frequent court appearances, client consultations, and collaboration with other attorneys and legal staff. Day-to-day, the attorney will be responsible for case strategy, legal research, drafting motions, and providing compassionate legal counsel to clients facing the collateral consequences of convictions.
Candidates must have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, be an active member of the California State Bar, and possess at least 2 years of relevant post-conviction or criminal defense experience. Strong written and oral advocacy skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage time effectively are essential. Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred given the firm’s clientele, and prior experience in immigration consequences of criminal convictions is a significant plus.
