Patent Counsel
Axiom is seeking a Patent Counsel to support clients in the life sciences, industrial, and aerospace sectors. This role involves providing strategic intellectual property guidance, focusing on patent development, prosecution, and portfolio management, to help clients protect innovation and navigate complex regulatory landscapes. The position offers the opportunity to work with leading organizations at the forefront of scientific and industrial advancement.
Key responsibilities include drafting, prosecuting, and managing patent portfolios, particularly within life sciences and industrial/aerospace technologies. The role also involves conducting patentability, freedom-to-operate, and landscape analyses, advising clients on IP strategy and risk mitigation, and collaborating with R&D, engineering, and business teams to align IP strategy with product development. Additionally, the Patent Counsel will support licensing, diligence, and other IP-related transactions, while staying current on evolving patent laws, industry trends, and regulatory developments.
Candidates should have 6-12 years of experience in patent law, with a focus on life sciences and/or industrial/aerospace technologies. Strong experience in patent drafting and prosecution is required, along with a background in a relevant technical field such as biology, chemistry, engineering, or a related discipline. Experience advising clients on IP strategy and portfolio management is essential, as are excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. A Juris Doctor (JD) degree, active bar license, and USPTO registration are required.
Preferred qualifications include experience supporting clients in life sciences (e.g., biotech, pharma) and/or industrial/aerospace sectors. Familiarity with complex, highly regulated industries and innovation-driven environments is advantageous. The ability to work in a hybrid or remote environment aligned with client needs is also preferred.
