Lightspeed Renderer - Senior Software Engineer
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Lightspeed Renderer team at Canva, you will play a pivotal role in developing and optimizing our next-generation rendering technologies. This position is integral to enhancing the core design experience that powers millions of creations daily, ensuring our editor remains smooth, scalable, and feature-rich. You will collaborate closely with a team dedicated to redefining how the world experiences design, contributing to Canva's mission of making design simple and accessible.
In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy innovative solutions for our rendering technologies using Rust, wGPU, Data-Oriented Design, and WebAssembly. Your responsibilities will include building and optimizing text, graphics, and orchestration features to ensure efficient rendering performance. Additionally, you will research and implement novel methods to achieve superior performance under unique constraints, take ownership of projects, improve processes, and proactively drive initiatives that contribute to team and company goals. Identifying opportunities for cross-team collaboration to unlock new insights and innovations will also be a key aspect of your day-to-day work.
The ideal candidate will have experience with Rust, C++, or C for performance-driven development, and proficiency in frontend development with TypeScript or JavaScript, including integrating native code via WebAssembly. A passion for writing performance-focused code, with a deep understanding of asynchronous programming, data structures, solution design, and architecture patterns, is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, effective collaboration within a team, and the ability to communicate ideas clearly are also crucial. Experience in game engine development or working with Entity Component Systems (ECS) and other data-oriented architectures, as well as a strong background in graphics programming using WGPU, WebGL, OpenGL, Vulkan, or similar technologies, are considered advantageous.
