Legal Counsel - Regulatory Compliance, Product and Privacy
Canonical is seeking a Legal Counsel specializing in Regulatory Compliance, Product, and Privacy to join its globally distributed legal team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of compliance and privacy matters within the technology and enterprise software sectors, contributing to the development and implementation of corporate policies and processes to meet regulatory requirements worldwide.
The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting and reviewing corporate policies, spearheading process changes, and deploying controls to ensure global compliance. They will develop and maintain global privacy programs, conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs), and support operational initiatives. Additionally, the role involves providing legal support to various internal clients, including product teams, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to evaluate the impact of privacy and data protection laws and regulations, including those related to artificial intelligence.
Applicants should possess an exceptional academic track record, a degree in law (JD or equivalent), and an active license to practice law or be in the process of obtaining one. Strong organizational and prioritization skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. A passion for technology, evidenced by personal initiatives and projects, is highly valued. Professional proficiency in written and spoken English, excellent drafting and presentation skills, and the confidence to share ideas and feedback are also important.
