The Legal Counsel, Parental Rights at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is a pivotal role within the U.S. Legal Division, focusing on advocating and litigating in support of parental rights. This position reports directly to the Senior Counsel, Director of the Center for Parental Rights, and is available in Lansdowne, VA; Dallas, TX; and Scottsdale, AZ. ADF is a non-profit organization dedicated to defending religious freedom, free speech, the sanctity of life, marriage and family, and parental rights.

In this role, the Legal Counsel will initiate, lead, and litigate complex lawsuits supporting parental rights, often representing parents and their children directly. Responsibilities include developing case strategies, preparing legal documents such as briefs and motions, and representing clients in court proceedings. The position also involves conducting advanced legal research on novel issues, managing fact and expert discovery, and engaging with media regarding cases and issues. Additionally, the Legal Counsel will advise allied attorneys, network with potential allied groups, and collaborate with the Development team on speaking engagements and other events.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, with licensure to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction. The role requires experience in complex litigation, including case strategy development, legal document preparation, and court representation. Strong legal research skills, experience in discovery processes, and the ability to interact with media are essential. The position also demands the ability to advise allied attorneys, develop professional relationships, and collaborate effectively with internal teams.
