Indirect Tax Compliance
Stripe is seeking an experienced State & Local Tax Compliance Specialist to enhance and maintain its US indirect tax reporting and compliance functions. This role involves developing and implementing compliance processes, supporting management, and collaborating with indirect tax systems and compliance leads on daily operations. The specialist will work in a fast-paced environment, engaging with various functional teams across the organization. Effective communication skills are essential, as the role requires explaining complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with state and local sales tax regulations, managing US sales tax registrations, gathering data for audits, and collaborating with international tax planning teams to enhance compliance processes. The specialist will also work with tax team members and product and engineering teams to define compliance requirements and implement sales tax controls. Promoting indirect tax awareness through training and liaising with business and tax partners on legislative changes is also a critical aspect of the role.
The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years of experience in US indirect tax compliance, including managing large-scale tax initiatives. Previous in-house experience within a multinational business and either legal or accountancy firm experience is preferred. A strong understanding of US state and local indirect tax laws, tax liability shifting models, and exceptional time-management and project-management skills are essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to prioritize projects in a dynamic environment, and experience working with engineering teams on tax compliance requirements are also important. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree or professional qualification in tax or law, experience in technology, payments, or financial services, and experience in a high-growth, rapidly scaling environment.
