Head of Legal
Roofr is seeking a Head of Legal to establish and lead its legal function, reporting directly to the CEO. This pivotal role involves building the legal department from the ground up, serving as a strategic partner across various teams including Sales, People, Finance, and Product. The ideal candidate will be a versatile generalist comfortable handling a wide range of legal matters in a dynamic startup environment.
Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating customer agreements, master service agreements, SaaS subscription agreements, and vendor contracts. The role also encompasses advising on employment law compliance across U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions, supporting corporate governance, managing privacy programs, and overseeing intellectual property portfolios. Additionally, the Head of Legal will develop legal infrastructure such as templates, workflows, and playbooks to enable scalable business operations.
Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school with active bar admission in the U.S. or Canada, and have 8–12+ years of legal experience, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house experience in tech or SaaS companies. A strong generalist background with experience in commercial contracts, employment matters, and corporate governance is essential. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments are also required.
