Electrical Hardware Engineer
Muon Space is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Early Career Electrical Hardware Engineer to join our growing team in San Jose, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, development, and testing of cutting-edge electrical hardware for our next-generation spacecraft. You will work closely with experienced engineers across various disciplines to bring innovative satellite systems to life.
In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of electrical systems for spacecraft avionics, including areas such as flight computers, power distribution, guidance and navigation, sensors, actuators, and communication systems. Responsibilities include participating in schematic capture and PCB layout with the guidance of senior engineers, assisting in the bring-up, testing, and validation of newly designed hardware, and collaborating with software engineers on the integration and testing of hardware and software components. Additionally, you will build and test early hardware prototypes to evaluate design concepts and mitigate risks, work cross-functionally with mechanical, software, systems, and production teams to ensure successful integration and manufacturability of hardware, contribute to the creation of design documentation, test procedures, and reports, and participate in design reviews to provide constructive feedback.
Preferred qualifications include a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with 0-3 years of experience in hardware engineering, preferably with exposure to electronic systems (relevant internships and academic projects will be considered). Familiarity with basic electronic components, circuits, and test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies), exposure to schematic capture and PCB layout software (e.g., Altium, Cadence/Orcad), and an understanding of microcontroller basics and common communication interfaces (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C) are desired. Strong problem-solving skills, a hands-on approach to engineering challenges, excellent communication and teamwork skills, and a strong desire to learn and contribute in a fast-paced, dynamic environment are essential.
The salary range for this role is $144,000 - $164,000, plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability and life insurance, three weeks paid vacation for new employees, 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave.
