Director, Business Operations
The Director of Business Operations at Engine is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the strategy and execution of the company's supply-side connectivity. Reporting directly to the VP of Customer Experience and Operations, this position involves leading initiatives related to Availability, Rates & Inventory (ARI), connectivity strategy, Supply API integrations, and providing technical support to Relationship Managers as they onboard new chains and suppliers onto the platform. Engine is a rapidly growing company that aims to transform business travel by integrating corporate travel, a charge card, and modern spend management into a unified platform.
In this role, the Director will manage end-to-end ARI operations, including rate validation, parity defense, gap closure, and addressing at-risk inventory. They will define and execute connectivity strategies across various systems such as Property Management Systems (PMS), Central Reservation Systems (CRS), Global Distribution Systems (GDS), channel managers, and third-party routing systems. Additionally, the Director will lead Supply API integration programs, coordinating with Engineering, Product, and Supply teams to enhance reliability, reduce booking failures, and expand the supplier network. Serving as the operational backbone for Relationship Managers, they will translate commercial needs into integration requirements, ensuring new connectivity is fully operational. The role also involves managing complex, cross-functional programs with clear ownership, structured escalation paths, executive visibility, and a relentless focus on delivery.
Candidates should have over 10 years of experience in driving complex technical programs across Engineering, Product, and Operations, demonstrating the ability to move organizations forward with structure and accountability. Proven leadership at senior levels is essential, with experience managing cross-functional teams and driving alignment without relying on authority. A track record of running complex, multi-workstream programs that span the business, delivered on time with clear accountability and measurable outcomes, is required. Technical fluency is necessary, with a strong understanding of systems, APIs, data flows, and integration architecture to engage credibly with Engineering and Product teams. Structured problem-solving skills are crucial, as is the ability to build operating models that others can work within. A data-driven approach is important, with the capability to build KPI frameworks that drive decisions and comfort working with data environments like Snowflake to surface actionable insights. While industry experience in travel, hospitality, or supply systems is beneficial, it is not a requirement; the emphasis is on discipline, rigor, and the ability to learn quickly.
