Digital Engineering Intern
ALO's Digital Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated Graduate or PhD-level Intern with a strong foundation in computer science and modern internet-scale systems. This role offers hands-on experience in building and scaling server-side systems, cloud-native services, and AI-assisted development workflows within a real-world, production environment. Interns will collaborate closely with senior engineers to design, develop, and optimize distributed systems that power ALO's digital platforms.
Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and testing server-side components and APIs, assisting in building and scaling distributed cloud-based systems, and collaborating with senior engineers on architecture and implementation decisions. Interns will also apply AI-assisted coding tools to improve productivity and code quality, write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, and participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
Candidates should possess a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or be a PhD candidate in a closely related discipline. A strong understanding of internet fundamentals, including HTTP/HTTPS, RESTful APIs, and web protocols, is essential. Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java (preferred), Python, Go, or C++ is required. Additionally, a solid grasp of distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, fault tolerance, and system reliability is necessary. Working knowledge of cloud architecture, particularly AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS/DynamoDB, Lambda, API Gateway, IAM, and VPC, is expected. Exposure to AI/ML-assisted development, including using AI tools for code generation, refactoring, or testing, is also desirable.
The internship offers a base pay range of $45 to $50 per hour, representing the current range for this non-exempt position. Actual pay will vary based on factors including location, experience, and performance. Interns will gain hands-on experience with production-scale systems, exposure to modern cloud architecture on AWS, practical application of AI/ML tools in software development, mentorship from experienced engineers in a fast-paced digital team, and the opportunity to make a real impact on ALO's digital platforms.
