DFM Engineer
Xometry is seeking a Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Engineer to join our Project Engineering team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with customers across various industries—including aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial, and medical devices—to evaluate manufacturability, optimize designs, and ensure successful project delivery. You will work directly with Xometry’s manufacturing partners, internal teams, and customers to solve engineering challenges and support production execution.
Key responsibilities include evaluating customer designs for manufacturability and recommending improvements using Xometry’s technologies and capabilities. You will develop and implement sourcing strategies that ensure quality and cost efficiency, support production troubleshooting to ensure smooth order execution and customer satisfaction, and interface with machine shops, fabrication partners, internal teams, and clients to drive project success. Additionally, you will participate in initiatives to expand and strengthen Xometry’s manufacturing partner network and technical capabilities.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field, with 2–4 years of experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment. A minimum of 1–2 years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience focusing on CNC machining and/or sheet metal fabrication is required. Strong understanding of process cycle times, material and geometry limitations, and cost optimization is essential. Experience collaborating with suppliers, OEMs, and customers, proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks preferred), and solid knowledge of GD&T and inspection/QA practices are also necessary. Proven ability to identify DFM issues from CAD models and technical drawings is crucial.
