Database Platform Tech Lead
The Database Platform Tech Lead at Trade Republic will spearhead the development and management of the company's database infrastructure, ensuring it is scalable, reliable, and efficient. This role is integral to the Platform Engineering team, which focuses on building self-service platforms and tools that enable over 300 engineers to deliver products with confidence. Trade Republic is Europe's largest savings platform, operating in 18 countries and managing over €150 billion in assets for more than 10 million customers.
Key responsibilities include setting database reliability standards by architecting failover mechanisms, replication topologies, and recovery strategies to meet availability targets. The role involves driving towards zero-touch operations by defining and implementing fully automated database operations, from provisioning and scaling to zero-downtime migrations. Additionally, the Tech Lead will own the database technology strategy, ensuring intentional adoption and rigorous operation of database technologies, and define the database contract with product teams to establish standards for schema governance, migration patterns, connection pooling, and query performance.
Candidates should have over 5 years of experience in database or platform engineering, with a proven track record in technical leadership. Deep, hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL is essential, including knowledge of replication, sharding, backup strategies, upgrades, and security. Familiarity with ClickHouse and Cassandra/Scylla in production environments is also required. A solid background in backend engineering, preferably with Go, and experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code tools in cloud environments like AWS are important. The ability to define technical strategy, drive cross-team initiatives, and communicate trade-offs effectively is crucial.
