Commercial Counsel, Crypto
Stripe is seeking a Commercial Counsel to support its Stablecoin & Crypto team, focusing on complex commercial and contractual negotiations, product launches, and scaling legal and operational infrastructure. This role involves close collaboration with Sales, Product Legal, Partnerships, Risk, Tax, Operations, and external counsel to ensure the safe, compliant, and commercially sound growth of Stripe's crypto, stablecoin, and wallet offerings.
Key responsibilities include leading negotiations and advising on a wide range of commercial and legal issues, working with Product Legal to bring new products and features to market, and contributing to the development of Stripe's commercial legal infrastructure. This includes advising on the contractual integration of services from Stripe's cryptocurrency, stablecoin, and wallet infrastructure acquisitions, drafting and maintaining agreements and playbooks, and leading or contributing to projects that improve internal processes and operational efficiencies, including leveraging AI tooling. The role also involves partnering with various teams across Stripe to align legal solutions with business priorities, serving as a strategic business partner to senior managers, developing training and resources for the Sales team, and managing relationships with outside counsel when external expertise is required.
The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, a creative problem solver, and possess exceptional drafting skills, with experience in creating service terms or SaaS agreements in addition to deal negotiation drafting. A self-starter with a proactive approach, clear and concise communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams is essential. Familiarity with legal issues and commercial risks related to hosted data and technology services, a passion for technology, and the ability to understand complex business models and product use cases quickly are also important. Candidates should be qualified with good standing membership in at least one US state bar with a JD or foreign equivalent and have 6+ years of relevant experience in-house or in a technology practice group at a top law firm.
The annual US base salary range for this role is $196,000 - $294,000. Additional benefits may include equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision benefits, and wellness stipends. The role is available either in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office). Office locations include New York, Atlanta, South San Francisco HQ, Seattle, or Chicago. Remote locations are defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of Stripe's offices.
