Commercial Counsel - APAC
The Commercial Counsel will act as the primary legal point of contact for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role is responsible for leading contracting strategy across the region and partnering closely with Sales and business stakeholders to support commercial growth.
Key responsibilities include serving as the first point of contact for legal matters across the APAC region, partnering with the General Counsel and external legal advisors to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice, and ensuring high-quality legal support aligned with business objectives. The role also involves partnering with Regional Sales Leaders and Account Executives to negotiate customer contracts, including SaaS, licensing, and professional services agreements, acting as the lead legal contact for customer negotiations across APAC, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating customer contracts, advising internal teams on contract interpretation and supporting resolution of contractual disputes, identifying trends and recurring challenges in negotiations to improve contracting strategy and processes, developing and maintaining contract templates and a contracts database, and managing engagement with external counsel for country-specific legal requirements.
The ideal candidate will have 7–10 years of relevant legal experience, with a strong focus on commercial contracts, proven experience working within international organizations supporting cross-border legal matters, a strong background in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements (e.g., SaaS, licensing, services), and prior law firm training is advantageous but not essential. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, with sound judgment and the confidence to act as a key legal advisor, experience partnering with commercial teams (e.g., Sales, Finance, Operations) in a fast-paced environment, working knowledge of global compliance frameworks (e.g., FCPA, UK Bribery Act, OFAC), exposure to employment law, intellectual property, or related areas is beneficial, strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills, and be highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities across regions.
