The Autonomy Software Engineer position at STR's Sensors Division involves developing advanced sensor systems and platforms to support national security. The role is situated within the Systems Autonomy, Analysis, and Modeling (SAAM) Group, which focuses on modeling and simulation to analyze system capabilities and develop enabling algorithms. The team works on full system prototypes, experiment campaigns, and next-generation technology components, with a particular emphasis on airborne, surface, and space-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, hyperspectral imaging, and EO/IR sensing.

Key responsibilities include system development, where the engineer will integrate mature hardware systems and develop code to collaborate with subject matter experts across STR. System testing is also a critical aspect, involving close collaboration with test leads to leverage testing capabilities across modeling and simulation and live tests, utilizing Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) infrastructure. Leadership duties involve leading small, focused teams to implement and test real-time applications featuring open architecture software principles, implementing real-time systems in Modern C++ from verified algorithms written in higher-level languages such as MATLAB. Additionally, the role requires customer engagement to support potential and current customer discussions, better understand their requirements, and shape product development.

The ideal candidate should be self-motivated with demonstrated ability to excel under limited guidance. Strong proficiency in modern C++ development, including multi-threaded applications, is essential. Experience with test-driven development and CI/CD practices is required, along with familiarity with cross-platform development (Windows, Linux, iOS) and version control workflows. Experience with hardware/software integration is also necessary. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a PhD, 5 years with an MS, or 7 years with a BS is expected. The candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is required.

Compensation for this full-time position ranges from $174,000 to $225,000 annually, based on factors such as experience, education, training, key skills, security clearances, and prevailing market and business conditions.
