Associate Counsel, Technology
Topstep is seeking an experienced Associate Counsel, Technology to join its dynamic Legal team. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the Associate Counsel will provide legal support across the company’s fintech, trading evaluation, and tech offerings, with a focus on regulatory and standards compliance in data privacy and cybersecurity matters and product development support. The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years of legal experience (whether in-house or at a law firm) advising fintech companies, trading firms, or SaaS providers, with a strong understanding of data privacy and cybersecurity matters applicable to a fast-growing tech platform.
Key responsibilities include providing legal counsel on a broad range of matters impacting Topstep’s product development and engineering team, advising the cybersecurity and privacy team on data privacy and cybersecurity matters, drafting and maintaining user-facing documentation such as terms of service and privacy policies, and negotiating SaaS agreements and other technology-related commercial agreements. The role also involves conducting legal research, providing practical advice to leadership on legal risks and regulatory trends, participating in internal training initiatives, and managing outside counsel for specialized matters.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Required experience includes 4-6 years of legal work focusing on technology transactions and privacy and data security compliance, including familiarity with GDPR, CCPA, GLBA, and other relevant regulations. Strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft 365 and document management systems are essential. Preferred qualifications include prior in-house counsel experience at a fintech company, trading firm, or SaaS provider, and familiarity with global privacy compliance and emerging privacy regulations.
Topstep offers a competitive salary range of $165,000 to $215,000, with eligibility for a performance-based bonus.
