2026 US Chess Academy

The 2026 US Chess Academy, presented by IMC in partnership with Team Liquid, is a unique program designed for students across US and Canadian colleges and universities who have a passion for chess. This initiative offers participants the opportunity to compete at the highest level and engage directly with World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen. Beyond the competition, the program provides insights into the dynamic environment of a leading global trading firm, IMC, highlighting the parallels between strategic thinking in chess and trading.

Participants will begin by competing in an online Swiss-format tournament hosted on Those who advance will be invited to IMC's Chicago office to participate in the championship finals. Finalists will have the rare opportunity to engage in a showmatch experience with Magnus Carlsen. Additionally, attendees will tour IMC's Chicago office, gaining firsthand exposure to the fast-paced world of trading, and will have the chance to network with IMC's traders, researchers, technologists, and recruiters.

Eligible candidates must be currently enrolled as full-time undergraduate or postgraduate students at a US or Canadian college or university and be at least 18 years old. A valid account is required. Applicants should be available to compete in the virtual qualifier on May 19 or 20, 2026, and be able to travel to Chicago for the finals on July 12–13, 2026. The program is open to students from all majors and academic backgrounds, and all skill levels are welcome.
