Technical Writer (Remote Eligible - Costa Rica)
Smartsheet is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to develop and maintain customer-facing content for the Smartsheet Help Center and internal product documentation. This role involves collaborating with the product team to create and update documentation that serves as the foundation for customer and internal enablement. The Technical Writer will own the documentation quality and strategy across the product knowledge base, enabling both customers and internal teams to self-serve, thereby reducing support and training burdens. Additionally, the role includes driving improvement initiatives across documentation, learning tracks, guides, and video content, while managing rapid product changes.
Key responsibilities include immersing oneself in Smartsheet's product line to understand the necessary technologies and features for accurate documentation. The Technical Writer will distill specification documents and internal technical specifications to create targeted, quality, customer-facing content, such as technical articles for the Smartsheet Help website, API documentation, eLearning modules or videos, internal documentation, and visual aids like screenshots and gifs. Producing customer-facing video content, including scripting, recording, and light editing in collaboration with stakeholders and subject matter experts, is also part of the role. The writer will work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure the technical accuracy of the content and use AI tools to accelerate content production, improve quality, and scale output.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience writing or editing content for various audiences on the web and a BA in English, Technical Communication, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. A strong command of the English language, both oral and written (C1 and above), is required. The candidate should have a basic understanding of and ability to use HTML formatting, experience developing templates and processes for consistent delivery, and an understanding of SEO and GEO best practices. Familiarity with video content production, including scripting, screen recording, or light editing, and experience using content management systems (experience with Drupal 9 or newer is a plus) are also desired. Demonstrated experience integrating AI tools into professional workflows and a point of view on where AI is taking technical writing are important.
