Corporate Counsel, Europe
Smartsheet is seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel to serve as the first dedicated legal hire in Europe. This role offers a unique opportunity to establish and lead the legal function for Continental Europe, providing autonomous support to the DACH sales team, EMEA sales operations, and cross-functional stakeholders across the region. The position is based in Munich, Germany, with a hybrid working arrangement and opportunities to collaborate with the UK office.
Key responsibilities include reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and advising on a broad range of commercial and corporate agreements, primarily under German law. The Corporate Counsel will serve as the primary legal point of contact for European operations, working independently to resolve day-to-day legal matters while collaborating closely with the global legal team. Additional duties involve building and maintaining the European legal framework, advising on data protection and privacy matters, and leading the localization of standard-form agreements and policies for the European market.
The ideal candidate is qualified to practice law in Germany (Volljurist or equivalent) with a minimum of six years' post-qualification experience, including at least three years in-house. Substantial experience negotiating and drafting contracts under German law is essential, with experience in French-law contracts being highly desirable. Full professional fluency in both English and German is required. The candidate should demonstrate strong commercial acumen, the ability to work autonomously, and excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
Smartsheet offers a dynamic and inclusive work environment where employees are encouraged to explore, push boundaries, and grow beyond their roles. The company values diverse perspectives and nontraditional career paths, recognizing that impact comes from individuals who care deeply and challenge thoughtfully. This role provides an opportunity to make a significant impact within a fast-growing international business.
