Staff Software Engineer (Sustaining Automation)
Chainguard is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of automation tools aimed at enhancing the delivery of secure container images. This role involves designing systems, building AI-powered tooling, and shaping the future of the company's fulfillment platform. The successful candidate will work closely with a small team of engineers, guiding technical decisions and elevating engineering quality.
Key responsibilities include architecting an automation platform to orchestrate package creation, test generation, and image building. The engineer will develop AI-integrated pipelines for manifest generation, test scaffolding, and validation, as well as write production-level Go code to develop CLI tools, services, and integrations. Additionally, the role involves building quality tooling to improve customer reliability and leading a growing team of engineers by setting technical direction and mentoring team members.
The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of software engineering experience with a proven track record in designing and building complex systems. Strong expertise in Go is essential, along with experience in AI/LLM integration for code generation and automation. Proficiency in systems architecture, developer tools, Linux and build systems, and container ecosystems like Docker and Kubernetes is required. Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously are also important.
