HopSkipDrive is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of quality infrastructure, focusing on CI/CD pipelines, ephemeral environments, and AI-assisted testing and verification. This remote role is integral to the Platform & DevOps team, which builds the foundational platform for HopSkipDrive Engineering, encompassing cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, test infrastructure, and AI coding-agent tooling. The company, founded by three mothers to address their own transportation challenges, has facilitated over five million rides across more than 20 states and is a Series D company with $100 million raised to date.

In this role, the Staff Software Engineer will lead the development of infrastructure that enables engineers to test and deploy safely through CI/CD, ephemeral environments, and AI-assisted testing and verification. Responsibilities include developing workflows where AI drafts test suites, scenarios, and verification artifacts, establishing cross-functional benchmarks for feature-complete test coverage, and providing technical leadership across the platform and product teams. The engineer will also participate in on-call and incident response for the pipeline and test infrastructure, acting as the escalation point when CI or environments fail, and turning incidents into lasting fixes.

Candidates should have experience in developer infrastructure, test automation, or platform engineering, with a record of leading technical work across multiple teams and shaping engineering standards through code review and documentation. Strong knowledge of AWS, infrastructure as code (Terraform), containers (Docker or Kubernetes), and Postgres is required, along with comfort working in a large Rails application with React and mobile clients. Experience building and owning a CI/CD pipeline and automated test coverage relied upon by an entire engineering organization is essential. Deep experience with Playwright (or an equivalent) and production experience with coding agents and LLM tooling for test generation or verification are also necessary.

The compensation for this role ranges from $195,000 to $210,000 annually, with additional equity stock options. Benefits include flexible vacation, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, 401(k), FSA, and the opportunity to work for a uniquely positioned, VC-backed company in a rapidly growing sector. HopSkipDrive operates as a drug-free workplace and is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

As a remote-first, mission-driven company, HopSkipDrive offers a high bar for talent and is built for people who want to do work that matters with others who hold a high standard. The company is rethinking how work gets done, who does what, and what a small team can accomplish, integrating AI into daily operations at every level. Candidates should be ready to learn fast and work differently, contributing to a culture that values direct, low-ego, customer-minded, and human-centric approaches.
