Staff Software Engineer (Libraries Platform)
Chainguard is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Libraries Platform team. This team is responsible for building and maintaining the secure, reliable infrastructure that continuously builds, verifies, and serves open-source libraries to our customers and internal teams across multiple ecosystems. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the architecture and implementation of the platform that powers this factory, ensuring our libraries are reproducible, trustworthy, and always up to date.
In this role, you will own the architecture and technical direction for the Libraries Platform, including services, pipelines, and package indexes that support secure, reproducible build, test, and distribution workflows for libraries across multiple ecosystems such as Java, JavaScript, and Python/AI/ML. You will design and maintain automation for artifact creation, updates, and verification, including vulnerability scanning, remediation workflows, SBOM and provenance generation, and policy enforcement across our library catalog. Additionally, you will build and operate shared platform services such as package indexes, registry mirrors, metadata services, and orchestration tooling that serve both external customers and internal ecosystem teams.
The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience designing, building, and operating infrastructure for language ecosystems or developer platforms, such as build systems, package registries, or CI/CD for widely used libraries or services. Strong proficiency in Go (Golang) or a strong readiness to ramp up quickly is required. A proven track record in building and owning developer tooling and automation that improve how engineers build and ship software at scale is essential. A strong background in CI/CD, cloud-native infrastructure, and infrastructure as code practices is also necessary. Excellent communication skills in a remote, distributed environment are important, with a bias toward documentation, clarity, and collaboration across product, infrastructure, and security teams.
Chainguard offers a flexible and remote-first culture, allowing you to work remotely with team meetup opportunities, bi-annual destination summits, and a monthly stipend for coworking spaces, phone, and internet costs. Our approach to equity includes receiving stock options upon hire and promotion, with the opportunity to participate in secondary offerings and a 10-year window to exercise your options. We cover 100% of your health, vision, and dental insurance premiums for you and your dependents. We offer flexible time off to ensure you can recharge and reset, and 18 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents and 12 weeks for non-birthing parents, with the option to use it all at once or throughout your child's first year.
At Chainguard, we are customer-obsessed, focusing on delivering solutions that create value and make our customers' lives better. We have a bias for intentional action, prioritizing, planning, trying things, and failing fast. While we do serious work, we don't take ourselves too seriously and enjoy the journey. We trust each other and assume good intentions, being transparent with decisions to empower team members to make well-informed choices.
