Sr. Software Development Manager, Community Discovery
As an Engineering Manager on the Community Discovery team at Twitch, you will lead one of three engineering teams dedicated to building innovative discovery experiences. This role involves close collaboration with an applied science team to integrate cutting-edge algorithms into production systems that impact millions of daily active users. You will oversee the development of software and services that power critical discovery features, including recommendations, search, feed ranking, and notification relevance, helping creators connect with their audiences and viewers discover content they love.
Key responsibilities include building systems that provide the critical connection between viewers and creators within the Twitch ecosystem. You will design and run consumer-scale services powering recommendations, ranking, and search results for tens of millions of users daily. Additionally, you will power and enable machine learning applications at scale, partner with applied scientists and other engineering teams to design ML-powered systems that effectively solve customer problems, and drive the professional growth and career advancement of team members through structured development planning, mentorship, and strategic talent management. While driving the most prominent scenarios directly, you'll also partner with stakeholders across the company integrating recommendations into their product features.
The ideal candidate will have a BA/BS in computer science or equivalent industry experience, with at least 3 years of experience as a software engineering manager and 5 years in software engineering. Development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Golang, Python, C/C++, or Java is required. Experience designing or architecting new and existing systems with a focus on design patterns, reliability, and scalability is essential. A proven ability to identify user needs and deliver customer-centric product solutions, along with experience developing and running large-scale consumer services, is also necessary.
Compensation for this position reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets, with a base pay ranging from $166,400 to $287,700 USD per year. Pay is based on factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional forms of compensation, such as equity, sign-on payments, and other benefits, may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
