Spring 2027 Legal Internship (US)
The Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) is a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing human rights and environmental protection through legal strategies. Their Spring 2027 Legal Internship offers law students the opportunity to engage in international environmental law and human rights projects. Interns will work under the guidance of experienced attorneys, contributing to CIEL's mission of developing the next generation of environmental leaders.
Interns will be involved in researching and writing on various areas of domestic and international law, including environmental and human rights law, international investment law, and international trade law and policy. They will assist with policy analysis and advocacy, attend meetings and conferences, and support the production of CIEL publications, legal opinions, and briefs. Additionally, interns may contribute to the preparation of amicus curiae before international tribunals and collaborate closely with CIEL staff on various projects.
Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program leading to a legal degree (e.g., LLM, JD) at an accredited university for the duration of the internship. They should have experience with international environmental or human rights law, either through graduate-level courses or comparable work experience. A commitment of at least 15 hours per week for a ten-week period is required.
The internship offers a monthly stipend of $2,600 for full-time interns based in Washington, DC. For part-time internships, the stipend is prorated according to the intern's level of time commitment. Stipends are intended to make the internship more accessible to aspiring professionals and are not intended to create an employment relationship.
CIEL fosters a collaborative and inclusive work environment, emphasizing professional development and real-world training. This internship provides valuable experience in international environmental law and human rights, preparing interns for future careers in public interest law.
