Software Engineer I - Secure Platform Operations (Remote Eligible)
Smartsheet is seeking a Software Engineer I to join its global Secure Platform Operations team in the United States. This role offers an early-career engineer the opportunity to work at the intersection of platform engineering, security, and developer experience. The successful candidate will be mentored by senior leaders to build and evolve a platform with security as a top priority, supporting engineering teams in improving resilience, reducing operational burden, and accelerating productivity.
Key responsibilities include assisting in designing and maintaining secure infrastructure on EKS within a multi-cloud environment using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform). The engineer will write code in languages such as Python, Go, or Bash to automate manual tasks, threat detection, and vulnerability management processes. Additionally, the role involves integrating security tools into CI/CD pipelines to provide developers with fast, actionable feedback and managing the container orchestration platform (Kubernetes/EKS) and self-hosted GitLab Runners.
Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Nationals to meet federal compliance requirements. A BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required, along with proficiency in at least one modern programming or scripting language. A basic understanding of cloud concepts, preferably AWS, and a strong desire to learn Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) are essential. Familiarity with basic security concepts or a strong interest in cybersecurity, along with excellent problem-solving and communication skills, are also required.
Smartsheet offers a competitive base salary range of $107,500 to $147,500 USD, determined by factors such as professional and educational experience, skills, and candidate location.
