Senior Staff TLM, Perception, Semantics Understanding
Waymo is seeking a Senior Staff Technical Lead Manager (TLM) to lead the Vehicle Understanding team within the Perception group. This team is responsible for developing production modules that enhance the Waymo Driver's ability to interpret and respond to various vehicle classifications, states, and intents, such as emergency vehicles, construction equipment, lane changes, and double-parking scenarios. This role is pivotal to Waymo's expansion efforts, both domestically and internationally, by advancing the generalizability of the Waymo Driver.
In this position, you will lead a team of approximately ten engineers, focusing on scaling Waymo's business through the development of key production areas. Your responsibilities include fostering strong collaborative relationships with upstream and downstream teams to deliver comprehensive product solutions. You will exercise technical leadership by pushing the boundaries of onboard and offboard generalizability, leveraging multi-modal foundational models, large-scale third-party data, and partnerships with research and simulation teams. Additionally, you will collaborate with platform and infrastructure partners to optimize data, training, evaluation, and onboard pipelines for high performance, efficiency, and reliability.
The ideal candidate will possess a BS or MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related disciplines, with over ten years of experience in computer vision and deep learning production systems within the autonomous driving vehicle space. A minimum of five years managing medium-sized production teams in complex, fast-paced environments is required, along with a proven track record in developing team culture and fostering professional growth. Experience collaborating with technical, research, and business stakeholders to drive impactful solutions is essential. A PhD in a related field and publications in top computer vision conferences are preferred.
Waymo offers a competitive base salary ranging from $281,000 to $356,000 annually, depending on factors such as location, experience, and education.
