Senior Software Engineer I, FIX
Braze is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I to join our Platform Software Engineering team, responsible for designing and building the distributed systems that power our massive-scale background processing platform. As a key member of this team, you will collaborate with application teams to evolve the Sidekiq platform, enhancing reliability, performance, and developer experience. Braze operates at a massive scale, serving 3.3 billion monthly active users and processing billions of messages daily.
In this role, you will develop and operate internal software frameworks that power Braze's asynchronous and background processing systems. Your responsibilities will include designing and building frameworks on technologies such as Sidekiq to reliably execute over a trillion jobs per day across a globally distributed platform. You will own scaling behavior, reliability guarantees, failure modes, and operational safety of these systems, providing abstractions, tooling, and guardrails that allow application teams to use distributed processing safely without managing underlying complexity. Additionally, you will improve observability, debuggability, and operational ergonomics for large-scale job-processing systems.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in distributed systems development or platform/infrastructure engineering. You should have a strong understanding of system interfaces, boundaries, edge cases, failure modes, and behaviors. A collaborative mindset, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to deliver quickly are essential. Experience with large-scale API-driven systems, application and systems observability, and technologies such as Sidekiq, Ruby on Rails, Go, MongoDB, Redis, and Kafka is highly desirable.
Braze offers a competitive compensation package, including a salary range between $128,842 and $232,200 per year, with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $144,000 and $258,000 per year, including bonus or commission. In addition to cash compensation, Braze provides equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that all employees own a piece of the company. Comprehensive benefits include flexible paid time off, health insurance, paid parental leave, and professional development opportunities.
At Braze, we foster a collaborative, transparent, and fun culture recognized as a Great Place to Work®. We are committed to creating equitable growth and opportunities inside and outside the organization. Our deep curiosity to learn and eagerness to share diverse passions inject a unique vibrancy into our culture. If you are driven to solve exhilarating challenges and have a bias toward action in the face of change, you will be empowered to make a real impact here.
