Senior Software Engineer, Developer Experience
Block is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to enhance the developer experience within our engineering teams. This role focuses on improving our extensive codebase, making it more efficient and accessible for developers and AI agents alike. As part of our Platform Infrastructure Engineering team, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the tools and workflows that drive our engineering processes.
In this position, you'll lead significant initiatives such as framework upgrades, language migrations, and dependency updates, ensuring minimal disruption to product teams. You'll design and refine agentic loops—cycles that enable AI agents to perform engineering tasks safely and reliably. Identifying and resolving bottlenecks in the developer workflow, enhancing build tooling, and improving continuous integration performance will be key aspects of your daily responsibilities. Collaboration with product engineering teams to understand their challenges and measure the impact of your work will also be essential.
Ideal candidates will have over seven years of experience working with large, complex codebases, with a proven track record in leading migrations and large-scale refactors. Deep expertise in application or platform frameworks, including their evolution and management, is crucial. A solid understanding of agentic loops and a commitment to their continuous improvement are important. Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust across teams are essential for success in this role.
Block offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary and equity options. The salary range for this position varies based on location, with Zone A ranging from $217,800 to $326,800 USD annually. Additional benefits include flexible time off, comprehensive health coverage, 401(k) matching, and wellness programs. Employees also have the opportunity to work from abroad for up to 45 days per year.
