Senior Software Engineer, API Enablement
Upstart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Event Bus, Experimentation, and gRPC team. This team is responsible for developing frameworks and tools that support event-driven architectures, facilitate the safe and measurable rollout of new features, and enhance efficient service-to-service communication. The role involves contributing to Upstart's North Star Architecture by designing and implementing high-impact solutions that integrate across nearly every service within the company.
In this position, the engineer will lead the design and development of new features and improvements to existing ones. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to understand requirements and translate them into an impactful roadmap. The role also includes establishing best practices for event-driven architecture, safe feature rollout, and API design, as well as mentoring junior engineers to promote a culture of technical excellence.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, along with at least four years of professional experience. Strong communication skills and proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Kotlin, Java, Python, Ruby, or TypeScript are required. Experience with automated testing patterns and building highly observable systems is also necessary. Preferred qualifications include experience with Kafka, gRPC, A/B testing, and feature flagging.
