Senior Security Engineer
Upstart is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join its Information Security team, dedicated to enhancing the safety of its products, customers, and partners. The role involves identifying risks, building controls to mitigate them, and developing proactive solutions to prevent unnecessary risks. The position is available remotely or in San Mateo, Columbus, or Austin, with the team operating on East and West Coast time zones.
Key responsibilities include architecting and building software solutions such as workflows, services, and internal tools to accelerate security initiatives. The engineer will mentor other engineers, influence leadership through clear risk metrics, and foster a culture where security enables innovation. Additionally, the role involves continuously improving systems by learning from real-world signals like false positives, operational feedback, and evolving threats, as well as serving as a senior technical authority during high-severity incidents to drive root cause analysis and implement durable architectural improvements.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of owning security initiatives end-to-end, including post-launch validation, monitoring, and iterative improvement. Experience performing security reviews such as design reviews, threat modeling, and architecture assessments, and driving actionable outcomes is essential. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to identify, investigate, and remediate complex security issues across multiple domains, develop code and build services to enhance unique security needs, and leverage AI-assisted tools to improve productivity while maintaining security and quality standards.
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $164,800 to $228,400, depending on geographic location and individual qualifications.
