Senior Security Engineer – Insider Threat & Investigations
Canva is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join its Security Operations team, focusing on Insider Threat and Investigations. This role is integral to protecting Canva's intellectual property, customer data, and strategic information by proactively detecting, investigating, and mitigating internal threats. The position offers flexibility in work location, with options to work from Canva's flagship campus in Sydney, other Australian campuses, or remotely.
The Senior Security Engineer will lead complex investigations involving sophisticated techniques and potential legal or regulatory considerations. Responsibilities include coordinating with Legal, People, and Security teams on investigation scope, evidence handling, and privacy considerations. The role also involves writing detailed investigation reports, responding to security events from detection through resolution, creating and improving detection logic across SIEM and EDR platforms, and proactively conducting threat hunting exercises. Additionally, the engineer will design and enhance scalable tooling, workflows, and operational processes to strengthen Canva's incident detection and response capabilities.
Candidates should have experience leading or coordinating security investigations, digital forensics, or incident response activities in complex environments. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills are essential, particularly in working with Legal, People, and Security teams. The ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences is important. Hands-on experience with macOS, Linux, and Windows systems, as well as proficiency with SIEM, EDR, and security investigation tools, is required. Programming or scripting experience in languages such as Python, Golang, or Java is also necessary.
