Social Insights & Research Lead (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)
Canva is seeking a Social Insights & Research Lead for a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Sydney, Australia. This role is integral to the Marketing Strategy Group (MSG) Research & Insights team, which operates at the intersection of data, culture, and strategy to inform Canva's global marketing initiatives. The team collaborates closely with various departments, including Marketing, Brand, Product Marketing, Campaigns, Social, and Strategy, to translate social media signals, audience behaviors, and market trends into actionable insights.
In this position, the Social Insights & Research Lead will be responsible for conducting comprehensive social listening analyses to assess campaign performance, monitor cultural trends, and evaluate competitor activities. This involves designing and executing both qualitative and quantitative research methods, such as surveys, concept tests, and audience studies, in partnership with brand, product marketing, and campaigns teams. The role also includes producing rapid intelligence reports and dashboards for key launches, events, and competitive moments, synthesizing multiple data sources to provide a cohesive view of public sentiment. Additionally, the lead will translate complex data into clear, stakeholder-ready insights and recommendations, contribute to a global reporting framework, and support social content measurement and optimization in collaboration with Social Media Managers, Growth Strategists, and Country leads.
Candidates should have over eight years of experience in social listening, market research, or consumer insights roles, with hands-on experience using social listening tools such as Meltwater, Sprout Social, or similar platforms. Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including survey design, concept testing, and data analysis, is essential. Strong data storytelling skills are required, with the ability to synthesize large amounts of unstructured data and present findings confidently to diverse audiences. An expert understanding of social platforms and audience behavior across channels like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), and Reddit is crucial. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver capable of managing multiple workstreams and adapting quickly to changing market trends and business priorities. Experience working cross-functionally with marketing, brand, or product teams is necessary, as is a self-starter attitude with a tenacity for execution and delivery. Familiarity with the use of AI within workflows for both efficiencies and effectiveness is also advantageous.
