The Senior Engineering Manager, Core Pricing, will lead a team responsible for developing and maintaining Upstart's core pricing systems. These systems are integral to the company's financial infrastructure, influencing nearly every borrower experience, product workflow, and partner integration. The role involves overseeing critical backend services that price loans across various products and partners, ensuring they meet strict requirements for latency, accuracy, and reliability.

Key responsibilities include leading, coaching, and growing a team of backend engineers and an engineering manager, fostering a culture of accountability and ownership. The manager will own team execution and delivery across multiple quarters, ensuring that core pricing systems maintain high standards for uptime, accuracy, and responsiveness. Additionally, the role involves guiding technical strategy across legacy and next-generation pricing systems, balancing short-term execution with long-term architectural goals.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, along with at least 8 years of experience, including a minimum of 3 years in direct people management. They should demonstrate strong executive presence, with a track record of influencing cross-functional leaders using data, business context, and sound judgment. Experience in pricing, fintech, lending, payments, marketplaces, or real-time decisioning systems is essential, as well as deep experience leading backend and distributed systems in production environments.
