Upstart is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Auto-Secured Product Lending (ASPL) team, focusing on expanding access to auto-secured lending products. The ASPL team collaborates with product, design, analytics, operations, legal, and compliance partners to deliver fast, clear, and trustworthy customer experiences in a regulated environment.

In this role, you will lead a team of engineers working on borrower-facing flows, backend services, and platform capabilities to increase eligibility and reduce friction. Responsibilities include defining roadmaps, shaping requirements, and delivering solutions that balance growth, customer experience, and risk. You will drive execution on cross-functional initiatives, improve delivery speed and quality, and use data to identify bottlenecks and guide investments that enhance conversion and operational efficiency. Additionally, you will coach engineers and technical leaders, fostering an inclusive team culture grounded in ownership and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate has over 8 years of experience building and operating production software systems, including distributed systems or cloud-based applications, and at least 3 years of experience managing software engineers. Experience leading cross-functional engineering initiatives from planning through production launch, working on customer-facing products with measurable business outcomes, and partnering with product, design, and non-engineering stakeholders in a fast-moving environment is essential. Preferred qualifications include experience delivering products in fintech or another regulated industry, using metrics and experimentation to identify opportunities and make tradeoffs, leading teams through periods of rapid growth, and supporting both new product development and ongoing platform improvements.

Upstart offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $195,300 to $270,400 USD for remote positions in the United States. Additional benefits include target bonuses, equity compensation, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, generous 401(k) matching, paid time off, family and parental leave, wellness and productivity allowances, and more.

As a digital-first company, Upstart provides flexibility for employees to work from where they thrive, with opportunities for in-person collaboration through team onsites and planning sessions. The company fosters a culture of creativity, experimentation, and advanced AI to reshape access to credit, helping millions move forward financially with clarity and confidence.
