Senior Data Scientist
Upstart is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our Machine Learning team, dedicated to expanding access to credit through advanced AI models. As a leading AI lending marketplace, Upstart partners with banks and credit unions to offer affordable credit solutions, leveraging over one million predictions per borrower using more than 1,800 signals. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely, with opportunities for in-person collaboration at our offices in Columbus, Austin, the Bay Area, or New York City.
In this position, you will be responsible for building and refining metrics to assess model performance and understanding the associated uncertainties. Your day-to-day tasks will include conducting in-depth data analyses to uncover growth opportunities, informing pricing strategies, and collaborating with engineers and analysts to develop scalable data pipelines. Additionally, you will partner with cross-functional teams to align on priorities and drive measurable business impact, as well as develop dashboards and reporting tools to monitor key metrics.
The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative field, along with at least two years of experience in data science or analytics. A strong understanding of statistical, probability, and machine learning theory is essential, as is proficiency in SQL for querying large datasets and experience with Python and data analysis libraries. The ability to translate complex data insights into strategic business recommendations is also crucial.
Upstart offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary ranging from $149,800 to $207,000, depending on geographic location and individual qualifications.
